4 Ways to Use a Golf Cart That Don’t Involve Golfing
January 12, 2018Do I Need to Do Anything Special When Cleaning My Golf Cart?
January 26, 2018Driving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) can provide the ultimate family-friendly adventure.
Whether it’s on a mountain, through the forest, or right in your own back yard, ATVs can provide a full day’s worth of fun for you and your whole family.
Thinking about taking a spin on your own ATV adventure? Here are some tips on having fun (and keeping safe) for the whole family!
Make sure everyone is wearing the appropriate gear
Safety gear isn’t something you should skip. Things like helmets, eye protection for dirt and bugs and other debris, and proper footwear are all things you’ll want to have on hand and available for anyone who will be driving or riding in the ATV. Nobody is going to have fun if there is a head injury that could have easily been prevented by wearing a safety helmet.
Drive the right ATV
Companies have been making and selling ATVs for a long time now, and you’ll want to make sure that you pick one that meets the proper safety standards for your ride.
If the terrain you plan to ride on is going to be rough, make sure the ATV you purchase or rent has coil springs and shock absorbers so that you don’t hurt yourself, a passenger, or the vehicle itself. Our own Textron Off Road ATV offerings, like the Ambush or the Stampede, are tailor-made for keeping safety in mind without sacrificing fun.
Bring snacks (And Stay Hydrated!)
It’s easy to lose track of time when driving down the trail. Make sure to bring healthy snacks like trail mix or granola bars, packed safely away, so that you’re not hungrier than a bear after hibernation when you’re on your return journey.
Some ATVs even come equipped with storage pouches so that you can fit plenty of extra drinks and snacks without having to bring a back pack!
Be sure to keep water on-hand and stay hydrated, especially once things start warming up in spring and summer.
Double check the weather
Driving an ATV in rainy, muddy conditions can be its own adventure, but it also ups the risk of a major injury.
If you’re planning on an ATV excursion, you should keep a constant eye on the forecast. Extreme conditions like triple-digit temperatures can cause heat stroke, and pouring rain or fog can reduce visibility. Make sure the conditions will be fair before going out on an ATV.
Make sure someone knows where you’re going
Last but not least, it is extremely important that someone who is staying behind is aware of your route. Your ATV could run out of gas or you may have another reason that you are unable to get back to your vehicle.
In situations like this, the person you’ve entrusted your plans to will be able to provide assistance if you don’t return on time.
If you’re going out with your family, make sure that you have an emergency plan and that everyone knows exactly what to do if something goes wrong. It is always better to be safe than sorry!
