Think You Have to Stop Using Your Golf Cart in Winter? Think Again!
December 21, 2016How to Find the Right ATV Helmet For You
January 4, 2017We here at Go With Garrett’s Golf Cars and Specialty Vehicles are lucky to live in a state that doesn’t get quite the snow and ice that other regions in the country do. Even the northernmost point of South Carolina might only see one or two serious accumulations of snow or ice per year, and down by the coast things stay positively balmy compared to the winters faced further north.
Still, on those chilly days in January or February you may be tempted to put your golf cart away and swear off golfing in winter.
The truth is, you can have plenty of fun playing golf even when the thermostat dips. We have three tips for making the most of winter golf in South Carolina.
1. Protect Your Head, Hands, and Feet First.
You lose a lot of body heat through the top of your head, so if you’re planning to golf on a chilly day, it’s essential to ensure you’re wearing something warm up top. A knitted or wool hat will help conserve body heat, and a pair of sturdy gloves will help keep the cold from nipping at the ends of your fingers. Be sure to invest in quality gloves that have good grip, so that your golf game doesn’t suffer!
We recommend a good thick pair of socks and warm boots or shoes, too. Make sure they’re comfortable and broken-in so that you don’t risk picking up blisters with all the walking you’ll do!
2. Take Along Something Warm to Drink
While warm clothes will help you on the outside, a nice warm drink will help to warm your insides!
Pick up a good-sized thermos and fill it with your favorite coffee blend, tea, hot chocolate, or even hot apple cider. A 20-ounce tumbler from Grizzly Coolers, available in several different colors, will help to keep your hot drinks at their ideal temperature.
A nice warm drink will help hold off the chill while you practice your golf game!
3. Customize Your Cart for the Season
Our final piece of advice is to make sure your golf cart has been customized to provide protection and warmth when the temperatures drop. Golf cart enclosures wrap around your golf car’s frame to provide protection from wind chill, while available heaters provide some much-needed warmth while you make your way through the golf course in the cold.
If you’re looking to customize your cart to deal with winter temps, but you’re just not sure what you need, give us a call or come by any of our three South Carolina locations! We’d be happy to speak with you about the kind of winter protection you’re looking for and help you pick out only the customizations you really need to stay safe and comfortable while out on the course.
One Final Piece of Advice…
If you golf up in the mountains where we’re a bit more likely to see some now, consider picking up some colored golf balls! The traditional white ball can tend to get lost if there’s any snow at all on the ground, so picking up some golf balls in bright or neon colors helps you keep track and enjoy your winter game.
